Samuel and the Bible

1 Samuel 8:1-3 The days of the Judges numbered

1 Samuel 8:4-18 There was no king in Israel, we should get one
8:4-5 the elders to Samuel: you are old, your sons are like Eli’s sons

8:6 Samuel to the LORD: this is evil in my eyes

8:7-9 the LORD to Samuel: obey them they will get the king they ask for

8:10-18 Samuel to the people: be warned you will get the king you deserve

1 Samuel 8:19-22 Everyone still doing what is right in their own eyes

Introduction: vain is the salvation of man

Psalm 108:1-4 Confidence: God will send out steadfast love and faithfulness

Psalm 108:5-6 Two prayers: may God be exalted, his people delivered

Psalm 108:7-9 God’s promised inheritance
(Acts 20:32)

Psalm 108:10-13 Facing conflict with the king

Conclusion: when God is exalted his people are delivered
(Isaiah 2:12-17; 6:1; John 1:14; 12:27-33)
